TASTING NOTES
Retributions 6th release, and probably the distilleries most anticipated so far, possibly even more so than their first release! This has been one of their most popular cask samples over the last 2 years at whisky festivals and I have a feeling it won’t be around too long!
This Single Malt English Whisky spent the first 13 months maturing in three New Chestnut Octaves; to be honest it was done at 8 months and by 13 months Rich thought it had been over cooked.
The maturing spirit was then transferred into what was cask W001, a Ex-Bourbon Quarter Cask, its second fill cask number being W066. It remained in this cask until turning 3 years old. (A small amount of spirit remained in each of the Chestnut Octaves, and they have been topped off with new make and are quietly resting in one of thier warehouses for a future release).
The time in the 2nd fill Ex-Bourbon quarter cask has been transformative for what was an aggressive spirit - it has relaxed and become more rounded, but with an unmistakable difference - the impact of the chestnut wood!

Tasting notes
Nose: Rich decadent dried fruit, like sticking your nose in a bag of plump raisins, with a little some thing different going on in the background, is it nuts or pine?
Palate: Its not oak, dried fruit and spice continue, not aggressive but its big and goes straight to the finish, which is the wrong word as it keeps going and going and going.
Finish: Leaves you feeling fresh, crisp menthol, cooling, herbal and a hint of pine
