Pink Port Wines

Pink Port Wines

Pink Port is a relatively recent innovation in the Port world, designed to bring Port's fortified wine magic to a younger, more adventurous audience whilst offering something genuinely refreshing and different. Our collection of pink port wines showcases this exciting category, featuring rosé-style Ports that combine the fortification and slight sweetness of traditional Port with the refreshing, fruit-forward character of quality rosé wine. What draws us to pink Port is its versatility and approachability - this isn't the heavy, contemplative Port of winter evenings by the fire, but bright, chilled, summery Port perfect for garden parties, barbecues, and casual celebrations. We've tasted these wines both in Porto and here at our Frome shop, and we're consistently impressed by how they bridge the gap between traditional Port and contemporary drinking preferences.

Why Our Pink Port Wine Collection Is Special

What makes our pink port wine selection genuinely exciting is the quality of producers who've embraced this style. Prestigious Port houses have applied their centuries of fortification expertise to creating pink Ports that offer genuine quality rather than simply jumping on a trend. These aren't gimmick wines - they're carefully crafted expressions that showcase red grape varieties in a lighter, more refreshing style whilst maintaining Port's characteristic fortification and slight sweetness. The port pink wine category demonstrates that Port houses can innovate and adapt whilst respecting their heritage and winemaking expertise.

Understanding the Character of Port Pink Wines

The beauty of Port pink wines lies in how they combine Port traditions with contemporary tastes. Made from red grape varieties like Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Roriz - the same grapes used in red Port - but with limited skin contact to extract color and flavor, pink Port offers red berry fruit character with refreshing acidity. Fortification adds body and a touch of warming alcohol, whilst residual sweetness provides fruit-forward appeal without becoming cloying. The result is wine that feels lighter and more approachable than traditional Port whilst maintaining distinctive fortified character.

Characteristics of our pink port collection include:

• Beautiful salmon-pink to rose-petal color that looks stunning in the glass
• Red berry fruit - strawberries, raspberries, cherries - with refreshing acidity
• Fortification provides structure and slight warmth
• Serve chilled over ice, ideally with tonic water and fresh fruit

How to Enjoy Pink Port Wines

We've discovered that pink port wines work brilliantly in situations where traditional Port might feel too heavy. Serve it over ice with premium tonic water, fresh strawberries, and mint for a refreshing long drink. Pour it chilled as an aperitif at summer gatherings. Mix it into cocktails where you want fortified wine character with lighter color and body. Or simply enjoy it on its own, well-chilled, as a refreshing alternative to rosé wine.
