Late Bottled Vintage Port Wines

Late Bottled Vintage Port Wines

Late Bottled Vintage Port - universally known as LBV - offers a brilliant solution for those who love the character of Vintage Port but want something ready to drink now without years of cellaring or complicated decanting. Our collection of late-bottled vintage port wines features this distinctive style from prestigious Port houses, showcasing wines from single exceptional years that have been aged longer in wood before bottling, creating Port with Vintage-like intensity and complexity but immediate accessibility. What draws us to LBV is its combination of quality and convenience - these are serious Ports that deliver rich fruit, structure, and complexity whilst being ready to pour and enjoy straight from the bottle. We've tasted these wines extensively in Porto and the Douro Valley, and we're consistently impressed by how LBV bridges the gap between everyday Ruby and investment-worthy Vintage Port.

Why Our Late Bottled Vintage Port Wine Collection Stands Out

What makes our late-bottled vintage port wine selection genuinely special is the quality of producers and the careful vintage selection. We stock prestigious Port houses like Feuerheerd's, Royal Oporto Quinta das Carvalhas, and others that craft their LBVs with the same attention to detail as their Vintage declarations. Unlike Vintage Port, which spends just two years in wood before bottling, LBV ages for four to six years in barrel, softening tannins and developing complexity whilst the wine remains under the producer's care. The result is a Port that offers Vintage-like character - concentrated fruit, structure, complexity - but filtered and ready to drink immediately without decanting or further aging. Many of these bottles are exclusive to Givino or difficult to find elsewhere in the UK.

Understanding Late Bottled Vintage Port Wines

The beauty of late-bottled vintage port wines lies in how extended barrel aging transforms single-vintage Port. Made from grapes harvested in a single year (the vintage stated on the label), LBV receives longer wood aging than Vintage Port, which integrates tannins, develops complexity, and concentrates flavors through slight evaporation. Most LBVs are filtered before bottling, meaning they won't throw sediment and don't require decanting - just open and pour. Some producers make "traditional" or "unfiltered" LBV that does require decanting but offers even greater complexity. Either way, you're getting single-vintage Port character without the wait or complexity of true Vintage Port.

Our collection of late-bottled vintage port wines includes:

• Filtered LBVs are ready to drink immediately with no decanting needed
• Traditional unfiltered styles offering maximum complexity for enthusiasts
• Prestigious Port houses with centuries of winemaking expertise
• Excellent value - Vintage Port character at a fraction of the price

When to Enjoy Late Bottled Vintage Port Wines

Late bottled vintage port wines work beautifully for occasions that deserve good Port but don't require the ceremony of Vintage Port. Serve it with cheese at the end of dinner parties. Pour it alongside chocolate desserts. Enjoy it by the fire on winter evenings. The convenience of not needing decanting makes LBV perfect for spontaneous moments when you want quality Port without planning ahead.
