French Red Wines

French Red Wines

France is where it all began for us - the country that inspired our love affair with wine. When we set out to build our collection of French red wines, we wanted to showcase the remarkable diversity that makes France the benchmark against which all other wine regions are measured. From the structured elegance of Bordeaux to the juicy, vibrant charm of Beaujolais and the powerful, spicy character of the Rhône Valley, this collection takes you on a journey through France's most celebrated wine regions. We've personally tasted every bottle, often visiting the châteaux and domaines themselves, because understanding the people and places behind these wines is what allows us to share them with genuine passion and knowledge.

Why Our French Red Wine Collection Stands Out

What makes our French red wine selection truly special is the balance we've struck between prestigious appellations and exceptional value. Yes, you'll find serious Bordeaux like the Château Petit Fombrauge Saint-Émilion Grand Cru - a wine that showcases everything we love about Right Bank elegance - but you'll also discover hidden gems from lesser-known regions that offer extraordinary drinking pleasure at genuinely accessible prices. The Château Famaey Cahors Malbec, for instance, delivers the kind of depth and character that would cost twice as much from a more fashionable postcode. We've deliberately sought out producers who prioritise quality over hype, which means you're getting red wine from France that represents genuine value.

Our trips to France are never rushed. We spend time in cellars, we taste through vintages, we ask questions, and we only select wines that genuinely excite us. Many of these bottles are exclusive to Givino in the UK, giving you access to producers that most British wine lovers haven't encountered yet. This isn't about ticking boxes - it's about sharing our genuine enthusiasm for French winemaking.

Exploring the Diversity of Red French Wines

The beauty of red French wines lies in their incredible regional diversity. Bordeaux gives us structured, age-worthy blends based on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot - wines like the Château Patache d'Aux Médoc that develop magnificent complexity with time. Head to Beaujolais and you'll discover the pure pleasure of Gamay, with wines like the Domaine Gilles Coperet Fleurie offering silky texture and gorgeous red fruit that's utterly beguiling. The Loire Valley surprises with Cabernet Franc-based wines like the François Xavier Barc Saint-Nicolas de Bourgueil - peppery, fresh, and wonderfully food-friendly. And the Rhône Valley delivers bold, spicy character through Grenache and Syrah blends that warm the soul.

Across our collection, you'll find French red wine brands and styles, including:

• Classic Bordeaux from prestigious appellations like Saint-Émilion and Médoc - structured wines built for ageing
• Beaujolais from individual crus like Fleurie and Saint-Amour - elegant, perfumed, utterly charming
• Rhône Valley blends offering spice, warmth, and generous fruit
• Loire Valley Cabernet Franc - fresh, peppery, and delightfully refreshing

Food Pairing With Famous French Red Wine

We're constantly experimenting with food pairings, and famous French red wine styles are wonderfully versatile at the table. A Saint-Émilion Grand Cru alongside roasted duck or beef Wellington is an absolute classic for good reason - the wine's structure and complexity match the richness beautifully. Beaujolais is criminally underrated with food; try a Fleurie with roasted chicken or salmon, and you'll understand why the French drink it with everything. Rhône reds love heartier fare - think slow-cooked lamb stews, grilled sausages, or rich beef casseroles. And Loire Cabernet Franc is brilliant with lighter dishes, particularly salmon or mushroom-based recipes.
