Shiraz Wines

Shiraz and Syrah - two names for the same grape, yet each conjures a different style. Our collection of Shiraz wines spans the globe, from the powerful, fruit-forward expressions of Australia's Barossa Valley to the elegant, peppery Syrah of France's Rhône Valley, with exciting stops in South Africa, Spain, and Portugal along the way. What draws us to this variety is its remarkable versatility. In warm climates, it produces bold, concentrated wines bursting with dark fruit and chocolate. In cooler regions, it offers restraint and spice, with savoury complexity that makes it wonderfully food-friendly. We've personally tasted every bottle in this collection, selecting producers who understand how to coax the best from this noble grape, whether they're making blockbuster Australian Shiraz or refined French Syrah.

Why Our Red Wine Syrah Collection Stands Out

What makes our red wine Shiraz selection genuinely special is the diversity of expressions we've assembled. The Dandelion Vineyards Lionheart of the Barossa represents everything we love about Australian Shiraz - powerful yet balanced, richly fruited yet elegant, with that characteristic chocolate and spice character. The Kershaw GPS Syrah from South Africa's cool-climate Elgin region showcases a completely different personality - restrained, peppery, with remarkable elegance. And from Portugal's Douro Valley, the Quinta do Noval Cedro proves that this grape thrives beyond its traditional heartlands. Many of these bottles are exclusive to Givino in the UK, which means you're discovering wines that most British wine lovers haven't encountered. We don't just buy what's fashionable - we seek out producers whose approach to Shiraz/Syrah aligns with our commitment to quality and authenticity.

Exploring the Range of Shiraz Red Wine Styles

The beauty of Shiraz red wine lies in how dramatically terroir shapes its expression. Australian Shiraz from regions like Barossa tends toward power and concentration - think blackberry jam, dark chocolate, and warming spice. Cooler Australian regions and South African expressions offer a middle ground, with pure fruit and well-integrated oak. French Syrah from the Rhône brings elegance and restraint, with black pepper, olive, and savoury herbs joining the dark fruit. Each style has its place and purpose.

Characteristics you'll find across our collection include:

  • Dark fruit flavours - blackberry, plum, and black cherry in varying intensities
  • Spice notes ranging from warm cinnamon to cracked black pepper
  • Chocolate and coffee undertones, particularly in riper Australian styles
  • Medium to full body with tannins that provide structure without harshness

Food Pairing With These Shiraz Australia Wine Styles

We love how versatile Shiraz Australia wine and its global cousins are with food. Powerful Australian Shiraz alongside grilled steak or barbecued lamb is absolutely magnificent - the wine's fruit intensity matches the richness perfectly. French Syrah works beautifully with more delicate preparations - roasted chicken, grilled vegetables, or charcuterie. The peppery character makes it brilliant with pepper-crusted dishes. And for vegetarian options, mushroom-based dishes or lentil stews pair wonderfully with the earthier styles.

Quality and Expertise You Can Trust
