Quinta de Baixo Lagar de Baixo Baga 2021

The Lagar de Baixo is a pleasant and versatile wine which will appeal to everyone. Violet glints peek out from its overall lively and bright appearance.

The nose reveals aromas of red fruit such as cherries and red berries which are complemented by herbaceous and floral notes and spicy hints from the barrel ageing.

On the palate, the structure is delicate and very elegant. It finishes long with a lingering acidity. 

Pairs well with venison dishes (partridge, wild boar), pork and bean stew, baked cod, dishes with legumes (red kidney beans, lentils).

The 2021 vintage saw some unexpected rain showers which made it more challenging to control disease pressure Despite this, we managed to maintain our vineyards' good health. Spring brought some spikes in temperature, which meant that our grapes ripened earlier and that the harvest was brought forward.

Harvesting began with our white wine grapes, on 26 August, and concluded with the reds on 26 September. It was a good year, characterised by balanced acidity, intense colour and lower alcohol levels compared to the previous vintage. This year, the Quinta de Baixo wines shine with elegance and freshness.

The wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks for 4 weeks before completing its fermentation process in large, used 2500L vats. In these same vats, the wine went through malolactic fermentation and a maturation period of 19 months before it was bottled unfiltered.
