Passagem Reserva Red 2023

An elegant, expressive, very harmonious, youthful wine with a lot of development potential. Its aromatic palette is wide-ranging, which is certainly also due to the mixed planting in the vineyard, which is over 20 years old and typical for Portugal. The fruitiness and pronounced spiciness are joined by the floral notes that seem to be so typical of Douro wines: lavender, violets, lilac and black tea as well as thyme. It's pronounced flavour spreads in the mouth with vigour and considerable length. The tannins are well present, but of fine structure. The wine will give great pleasure for many years to come and will bring out new aroma facets with every year of life.

Across the river from the famous Vale do Meão lies Quinta das Bandeiras, in the heart of the Upper Douro. Crossed by the old Pocinho–Barca d’Alva railway line, it inspired the name Passagem, a brand created in 2005 by the Bergqvist family (owners of Quinta de La Rosa), in partnership with winemaker Jorge Moreira.

The 100-hectare estate saw most of its vineyards replanted in the same year, now standing out as unique and characterful plots. Passagem’s philosophy is to express the full potential of the Douro Superior through wines with vibrant fruit, refined aromas, freshness, and elegance.

A milestone of quality was reached with the Passagem Grande Reserva Tinto 2009, awarded Best Portuguese Wine at Essência do Vinho in 2017.

Vinification: Fermentation in stainless steel vats, followed by 18 months of ageing in Allier French oak barrels.

Pairs well with rich mushroom dishes (like ravioli or risottos) or Iberian black pork.
