Altos Las Hormigas Malbec Terroir Valle de Uco 2023

A fresh Malbec with an intense ruby red colour. On the nose, it has a complex bouquet of blackberry, blueberry, spices, ginger, and fresh herbs. The palate is juicy with good texture and a persistent finish.

Grapes from different vineyards were vinified separately before blending and were vigorously checked on a double selection table before being put into small stainless steel tanks. The alcoholic fermentation took place with indigenous yeasts at a controlled temperature of 24-26°C, for 15 days with 15% of the fruit remaining whole bunch. Following fermentation, the wine was aged for 12 months with 90% in concrete tanks and 10% in untoasted large oak foudres. Once blended, the wine was aged for 6 months in bottle prior to release.

2023 was a vintage of extremes. The beginning of spring was cool, with low rainfall, but at the end of October, a heavy frost affected the entire region. Towards the end of spring, a series of heat waves began and they lasted until the end of the harvest. The early harvest was decisive in maintaining the winery’s style. Despite the challenges of the harvest, these conditions favored wines with great concentration, good levels of acidity and texture.
