Rioja Red Wines

Rioja Red Wines

We're genuinely passionate about Rioja, and it shows in the care we've taken to build this exceptional collection. From the moment we started Givino, we knew Rioja red wines had to be at the heart of what we offer. Why? Because this legendary Spanish region produces some of the most elegant, food-friendly red wines in the world - and we've spent countless hours in cellars and tasting rooms to bring you the very best. Our collection ranges from vibrant young Jovenes that burst with fresh cherry and strawberry to magnificent Gran Reservas aged for years in French and American oak, offering complex layers of vanilla, tobacco, and dried fruit.

Why Our Spanish Red Wine Rioja Collection Stands Out

What makes our Spanish red wine Rioja selection truly special is the access we've built with prestigious producers. We stock exclusive wines from renowned bodegas like Gómez Cruzado and Luis Cañas - producers whose dedication to quality matches our own. Many of these bottles are only available in the UK through Givino, which means you're discovering wines that most British wine lovers have never encountered. We don't just buy what's popular; we travel to Spain, we taste, we question, and we select only what genuinely impresses us. Every bottle in this collection has earned its place through our rigorous sampling process.

Take Gómez Cruzado, for instance. Their range showcases everything we love about modern Rioja - respect for tradition combined with contemporary winemaking brilliance. Or consider Luis Cañas, whose family has been perfecting Tempranillo for generations. These aren't just wines we sell; they're red wine Rioja bottles we'd happily pour at our own dinner table, and often do!

Exploring the Range of Spanish Wine Rioja Styles

One of the joys of Rioja wines is the incredible diversity within a single region. Our collection reflects this beautifully, offering something for every palate and occasion. Perhaps you're after a fruit-forward Joven like the Arloren Vegacanada - perfect for midweek dinners and wonderfully expressive. Or maybe you're ready to explore a Crianza that's spent time in oak, developing that characteristic Rioja smoothness. For special occasions, our Reservas and Gran Reservas, like the stunning Navajas Gran Reserva 2015, deliver the complexity and sophistication that make Spanish Rioja red wine so celebrated worldwide.

The beauty of Tempranillo - the star grape of Rioja - is its ability to express terroir whilst remaining approachable. You'll find wines here with notes of:

• Ripe red cherries, plums, and blackberries in younger styles
• Warm vanilla, coconut, and sweet spice from oak ageing
• Earthy leather, tobacco, and dried fig in mature Gran Reservas
• Bright acidity that keeps everything fresh and food-friendly

Perfect Food Pairings for Rioja Wine Red

We're often asked what to serve with Rioja wine red, and honestly, these wines are some of the most versatile you'll find. The natural acidity and moderate tannins make them brilliant with food. Our personal favourites? A Crianza alongside slow-roasted lamb with rosemary is absolutely sublime. Aged Manchego cheese brings out the nutty, savoury notes in Reservas beautifully. And for a proper Spanish feast, try pairing a Gran Reserva with Ibérico ham and roasted red peppers - it's a combination that never fails to impress our customers.
