Father's Day

Father's Day Wines

The third Sunday in June has a habit of arriving faster than expected, and every year the question is the same: what do you actually get for a man who says he doesn't need anything? A great bottle of wine sidesteps the problem entirely. It's personal, it's pleasurable, and when it comes from a curated specialist, it carries a quiet signal that you paid attention. Our Father's Day wine selection at Givino is built for that precise moment, not as a last resort, but as a considered, affectionate choice.

Father's Day Wines: Because a Bottle Should Mean Something

The Sunday before Father's Day, and you want to give him something he'll actually remember. Father's Day Wines from Givino are chosen for dads who appreciate something genuine: full-bodied reds from Iberia, elegant whites, and exclusive ports rarely found elsewhere in the UK. Browse our selection and buy with real confidence.

We source from producers across Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, South Africa, and beyond, and many of the bottles in this collection are exclusive to us in the UK. If your dad is the kind of person who notices the difference between a generic supermarket red and something with genuine character behind it, he will notice the difference here. Take the Kopke 10 Years Old Tawny Port N.V.: a beautifully structured, nutty, amber-hued Port aged in small oak casks, with that particular warmth that makes it perfect sipping after a long Sunday lunch. Or consider the Red Wines in our range, where regional expression and winemaking craft speak louder than any label.

The Best Wine for Father's Day: Matching Bottle to Dad

Not all dads drink the same wine, which is exactly why a specialist collection beats a single-choice gift every time. Our selection spans full-bodied reds, mineral whites, celebrated ports, and sparkling options: enough range to find something tuned to his palate rather than a guess based on bottle shape.

• For the red wine dad: Look to the deeper, structured end of our Iberian range. Spanish and Portuguese reds made from Tempranillo, Touriga Nacional, or Tannat carry the kind of depth that rewards a proper glass, not just a quick pour. The Bodega Garzón Reserva Tannat 2023 is a compelling example: dark-fruited, firm in structure, and built to be savoured slowly rather than knocked back. It pairs brilliantly with aged cheese or slow-roasted lamb, the tannins cutting through richness in a way that elevates both the food and the wine.
• For the Port lover: Port is one of the great underrated Father's Day gifts. A well-aged Tawny or a serious vintage port wine offers complexity that grows in the glass. Serve slightly cool, around 14–16°C, in a tulip-shaped glass, and let it breathe for a few minutes. The aromas of dried fig, roasted walnut, and spiced orange peel will do the rest.
• For the curious dad: Someone who enjoys discovering new regions might love an unexpected white, perhaps the Quinta Pousada de Fora Loureiro 2021, a floral, textured Portuguese white with a crispness that works beautifully with grilled fish or simply as an afternoon aperitif. It is the kind of bottle that prompts questions, and questions lead to conversations.
• For the gin-loving dad: We also carry a curated selection of artisan gins, including bottles from Somerset-based producers. Pair a premium gin with a quality tonic and a single large ice cube, and that becomes a gift in itself.

If you're unsure where to begin, our Wine Gifts section offers some of our most popular pairings and curated bottles chosen specifically for gifting occasions. And if your dad appreciates Iberian wine in particular, our Portuguese Wines and Spanish Wines collections are worth a closer look: both regions offer extraordinary range at every level.

Wine Gift Sets and Wine Hampers for Father's Day

A single standout bottle is always welcome, but sometimes the gift is elevated by presentation and context. Our wine gift sets are thoughtfully assembled, not random bundles, but combinations chosen because the bottles genuinely complement each other. A red and a Port from the Douro. A white and a rosé from Catalonia. Two expressions of the same grape from different altitudes or soils. The idea is that your dad doesn't just receive wine: he receives a small education, a reason to open both bottles over different occasions and think about what changed.

For dads who enjoy the ritual of a long Sunday, wine hampers for Father's Day can include our Port Wines alongside a carefully chosen red. This pairing works because Port's sweetness and concentration act as a finishing note to a meal the red has carried, think of it as dessert in liquid form, with depth that no pudding can quite replicate.

We also have options across Fine Wines for fathers with a well-developed palate: bottles from prestigious producers that would sit comfortably in a serious cellar. These make particularly meaningful gifts for a milestone birthday that coincides with Father's Day, or simply for a dad who has always deserved something exceptional.

Red Wine Gifts for Dad: Why Provenance Matters

We are obsessives about where wine comes from and how it's made, and that means we only stock bottles we have tasted ourselves and believe in genuinely. When you choose a red wine gift for dad from Givino, you are not picking from a warehouse catalogue. You're choosing something we have stood behind from the vineyard to the shelf, many of them available nowhere else in the UK.

The gift a bottle of wine for Father's Day proposition has always been this: it's intimate without being sentimental, indulgent without being frivolous. A bottle that comes with a story, of a winemaker who farms biodynamically on a windswept hillside, or a family domaine producing just a few thousand cases a year, turns a gift into a conversation. And conversations with your dad over a good bottle are exactly the kind of thing you remember.

Our team at Givino, based in Frome, Somerset, has done the tasting, the travelling, and the sourcing. Browse our selection across gifts for wine lovers and find the bottle, or the set, that says what you want it to say. We have done the hard work, so you can give with confidence.

What are the best wines for Father's Day if he prefers full-bodied reds?

Full-bodied reds made from Tannat, Touriga Nacional, Tempranillo, or Shiraz tend to be the most satisfying for dads who like wines with presence and structure. Bottles such as the Bodega Garzón Reserva Tannat 2023 or a well-aged Portuguese red from the Douro deliver the depth and complexity that reward slow drinking rather than casual sipping. Pair them with roasted meats or aged hard cheese and they truly come into their own.

Are wine gift sets a better Father's Day wine gift than a single bottle?

It depends on the dad. A single exceptional bottle, something he would never buy himself, can be deeply personal and memorable. Gift sets, however, offer range: two or three bottles chosen to complement each other invite comparison and discovery, which is particularly appealing for dads who enjoy exploring wine rather than simply drinking it. Either way, a bottle sourced by a specialist carries more meaning than a generic supermarket pick.

Can I find exclusive or hard-to-source wines for Father's Day that he won't have tried before?

Yes, and this is one of the things we are most proud of at Givino. A number of bottles in our Father's Day wine selection are exclusive to us in the UK, meaning they simply are not available elsewhere on the high street or through major online retailers. If you want to give your dad something genuinely new, from a small Portuguese quinta, an artisan Spanish bodega, or a boutique South African estate, this is where to look.
