Dow’s Vintage Port 1997
TASTING NOTES
Mouth-filling and round, without any sharp edges, but this wine remains extremely firm and dense, with several decades of life ahead of it. Dried fig, chocolate and black licorice flavors only hint at what lies ahead
Dow’s vintage port is one of the world’s finest ports produced only in exceptional years, when ideal weather patterns bring the grapes to a perfect state of maturity.
Dow’s owns two of the Douro’s finest vineyards: Quinta do Bomfim and Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira. The best wines from each of these two properties form the backbone of the Dow’s vintage port.
Those from Bomfim are made using the very latest wine making equipment, whereas all the wines from Senhora da Ribeira are made traditionally in the old stone “lagares”. The distinctive quality of each Quinta’s wine and the different methods of production complement each other to produce this great vintage port. Dow’s is one of the last private family companies in the port trade. It is completely owned and managed by the Symington family which has produced port for over a century through four generations, an unrivalled record.
Store this bottle lying down and stand the bottle upright for at least an hour before decanting.
