Quinta das Bágeiras Garrafeira Tinto 2016

TASTING NOTES

Classic smoky, chalky minerality, with wild, taut black and red cherry fruit, fragrant violets and a hint of charcuterie to nose and palate. Parrying fine sooty tannins and sluicing mineral acidity lend tension and tease out the concentrated fruit on a persistent, linear finish.

This wine’s grapes come from very old vines (over 90-years-old). They are fermented for 5 to 8 days in a lagar without destemming (the berries are not removed from the cluster). Subsequently, they are pumped down with a wooden punch down tool, several times a day, until they reach the right intensity. Afterwards, the wine finishes its fermentation in old wooden tonels. While it rests, it is decanted and aged in the same tonels for about 18 months. It is bottled without fining or filtration.
