It is unique among Argentine appellations in being founded along scientific, geological principles rather than geopolitics. It is also typified by smaller farms in the hands of families who have been here for generations. Juanfa has developed something of a reputation for his Chardonnay from Paraje Altamira. This does initially scream \"Chardonnay\" at you, but takes you on a textural and sensorial journey. It's delicious, waxy, saline, powerful and long. Coming from 25-year-old vines on stony soils at an altitude of 1,100 meters, it's fermented naturally and aged for 12 months in old oak barrels then bottled unfiltered. The Sauvignon Blanc vineyard is located in the premium viticultural region of Gualtallary, where the vines are planted in calcareous soils at 1,400 metres above sealevel. The Semillon grapes come from a low-yielding 50 year old vineyard in La Consulta, where the vines grow at 1,000 metres elevation in sandy soils and produce rich, concentrated wines. The Chardonnay component comes from La Carrera which is located at 1,700 metres above sea-level in sandy soils which are supported by gravel and boulder.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eMatias Riccitelli is the son of renowned winemaker Jorge Riccitelli. Having worked at some of the most prestigious wineries in Argentina and several vintages around the world, Matias used his experience, knowledge and passion and set up his own winery in 2009. His vineyards cover 50 hectares located in three selected sites within the premium growing region of Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza.
